CHEMUNG COUNTY DEMOCRATIC COMMITTEE RESOLUTION

Resolution Urging State Chair Jay Jacobs, Hon. Chuck Schumer, and Hon. Kirsten Gillibrand, and all Democratic Elected Leaders to Endorse Democratic Nominee Zohran Mamdani for Mayor of New York City (Adopted by the Chemung County Democratic Committee.)

WHEREAS a core principle of the Democratic Party is to support candidates chosen by Democratic voters in free and fair elections; and

WHEREAS, in the most recent New York City Democratic mayoral primary, voter turnout reached its highest level since 1989, with significant participation from younger and first-time voters; and

WHEREAS the Democratic voters of New York City overwhelmingly selected Zohran Mamdani as their nominee for mayor in the upcoming November general election; and

WHEREAS Mr. Mamdani defeated two high-profile candidates—former Governor Andrew Cuomo, who is now seeking election on independent party lines in the general election, and incumbent Mayor Eric Adams; and

WHEREAS, no other Democratic candidates remain in the race, and Zohran Mamdani is the duly nominated Democratic candidate for Mayor of New York City; and

WHEREAS, State Chair Jay Jacobs, Hon. Chuck Schumer, and Hon. Kirsten Gillibrand, have expressed agreement with Mr. Mamdani’s broader vision to make New York City more affordable and equitable for both current residents and those drawn to its opportunities; and

WHEREAS unity among Democratic leaders following a primary election demonstrates respect for the will of the voters, reinforces democratic norms, and strengthens the Democratic Party’s integrity and credibility; and

WHEREAS, with our democracy under threat from a corrupt and lawless sitting president, it is imperative that Democratic leaders at all levels show resolve and unity in standing behind candidates who embody Democratic values and are committed to fighting for working people;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Chemung County Democratic Committee respectfully urges State Chair Jay Jacobs, Hon. Chuck Schumer, and Hon. Kirsten Gillibrand to formally and publicly endorse Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic nominee for Mayor of New York City, at their earliest opportunity; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that copies of this resolution be transmitted to State Chair Jay Jacobs, Hon. Chuck Schumer, Hon. Kirsten Gillibrand, and the New York State Democratic Committee, and other relevant Democratic leaders to affirm our commitment to party unity and the values of democracy.
