<h2>Chemung County Voters went back to speak again at the last Chemung County Legislative Meeting on 3/14/25. What were the results?</h2>On 3/10/25, the citizens of Chemung County overwhelmingly asked for members of Chemung County Legislature to put forth a resolution calling on Cong. Nick Langworthy to defend his vote of approval, and speaking against the 2025 GOP Budget cuts proposal in the amount of $880 billion, and the devastation it would bring to residents of Chemung County, over the next 10 years . On 3/14/25 citizens returned to the Legislature hall to ask if the requested resolution had been drafted or voted on. Leg. Mark Margeson stated that there had been efforts made to reach out to Langworthy's office and they would continue to try in the coming weeks, but nothing substantial had occurred. In absence of further movement, a resolution was drafted by the citizens of Chemung County, and delivered to Democratic Legislators Bill McCarthy &amp; Brent Stermer, who agreed to present and sponsor the bill for vote before the legislative committee. <h3>Running for office in the "new" era of an Oligarchy!</h3>Well...its 2025 and now, we're here! Maybe we're here because you didn't care to vote in the last election (and if you didn't vote, we'd really like to hear what were your reasons.) Maybe we're here because you did vote in the last election...for whomever you chose to vote for. It really doesn't matter, because either way...here we are. What do we mean by here? The 47th President of the United States has been inaugurated (again). A President who wants to buy Greenland, change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, and wants to incorporate Canada &amp; Panama into the United States. (Mind you, none of these are even remotely local issues of concern!) So, as the title of a book by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once asked; "Where do we go from here - chaos or community?" If your choice is community...consider being of service to help make our local communities better. Consider running for office. Don't do it so you can be a political bigwig. Don't do it for the money, because full disclosure: local offices don't pay much. Do it to truly make a contribution that will make life better and improve local conditions. We'll be posting political offices in the towns and villages of Chemung County that will become open for election in 2025. We're also going to offer resources and training on how to run for office, taught by past candidates, those experienced in running campaigns, and members of the Chemung County Board of Elections. We're also improving on our listening skills by holding voter surveys, open seminars, and town halls giving those in our local communities a chance for input to voice their concerns. This is how we start to change things from the bottom up. By changing conditions where we live, that will affect you and your neighbors the most. This is how we navigate the next 2 &amp; 4 years, until we can get to the next Presidential election. Because right now, conditions indicate that we're getting ready to enter a rocky sea of chaos. On February 25th, the House Of Representatives voted on the 2025 GOP&nbsp;Budget,&nbsp;which would allow $880 billion in&nbsp;proposed&nbsp;cuts over the next ten years. The majority of those cuts will affect&nbsp;Medicaid recipients&nbsp;in our community. According to the New York State Department of Health’s January 2025 Medicaid Enrollment Data-book report, there are 29,532 people in Chemung County&nbsp;enrolled.&nbsp;The population for Chemung County, as of 2023, was 81,325 people. That calculates to just under 36% of the county’s population who are enrolled in Medicaid insurance and services! Access to Medicaid&nbsp;as their primary form of health insurance for thousands of our fellow county residents&nbsp;to keep healthy&nbsp;is vitally imperative !(If you want to include a personal story, here would be a good spot)&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Cuts to Medicaid would wreak havoc to one third the population&nbsp;Chemung County! These are our neighbors, friends, and relatives who would be adversely impacted. In addition, our communities are experiencing an increase in homelessness, drug use, and mental health crisis among our citizens. Any decrease in Medicaid, will not only serve to negatively impact these populations, but will contribute to the detriment of our community where 16.8% of its population lives below the national poverty level.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Tonight, I am asking you,&nbsp;the elected officials of the&nbsp;Chemung County Legislature,&nbsp;our local county government&nbsp;to engage with Congressman Nick Langworthy, and impress&nbsp;upon&nbsp;him the seriousness of these potential cuts to Medicaid, and the harm they will do to this county.&nbsp; This can result in dangerous harm to the well-being of&nbsp;children, senior citizens and low income individuals who depend on this valuable resource.&nbsp;<h4>Thank you for your attention, and immediate action on this issue.</h4>

This Valentine's Day, the CCDC organized a "Love Your Neighbor" Clothing Drive. For a month we collected clothing, quilts, hats, gloves, shoes, toys, to help those who needed in our community. The drive ended with a hot chocolate (and pizza) movie screening and a lively discussion. Thank you Chemung County for your generous donations!

<h2>The local community discusses Project 2025</h2>With the release of the Project 2025 Mandate, it's been determined that P25 is one of the biggest threats to our American democracy. We needed to scrutinize the over 900+ page document and examine exactly what was that threat. The Chemung County Democratic Committee (CCDC) engaged in 2 public local community discussions, where we openly discuss the agenda. The items below are what we uncovered, and as we endeavor to endure the next 4 years, we hope the information provided below helps you to discover for yourself the steps others will take to curtail our freedom, and destroy our democratic government.At the request of attendees to the community discussions, we've duplicated the PowerPoint presentations, where possible. Some presentations were given orally without visuals and were not recorded and could not be replicated here.
