In the final vote every single Republican voted for the Big Ugly Bill and in doing so, made the biggest transference of wealth in American history! They cut SNAP, Medicare, Medicaid, Veteran Services, caused the close to rural hospitals, and so much more...to give tax breaks to Billionaires! And President Trump signed it into law on July 4th, a date that used to celebrate this country's freedom. Our mission is now made clear. VOTE THEM OUT! Latest Update :<ul><li>6/1/25 - Regarding the Chemung County Legislature and the efforts of county citizens since March of this year, to have this public body put forth a full body resolution opposing cuts to Medicaid, I received this email on May 30th from one of the county legislators I had been continuing to press by email."Under new business at the end of the Multi Service committee meeting on May 27th, I asked to have our attorney put a resolution forward. I had brief back and forth with Mike Smith (Chair of the Multi Services committee). I was told he would be not be comfortable having something on the agenda stating we are opposed to something that is unlikely to happen. Unfortunately, I don’t see a resolution opposing any kind of potential cuts to Medicare/Medicaid as the majority of board members don’t believe it is a possibility.”After repeated and consistent attempts to get our county electeds to advocate for our community, they have chosen once again, NOT to do so. I think that it's also important to highlight that the 5/27 meeting video recording is not available for review because of another "IT glitch". For those not aware, these "IT glitches" with county legislative meetings, happen way too often! - (Andy Patros)</li></ul>All 15 county legislative seats are up for election in 2026.The next meeting of the Chemung County Legislature is Monday, June 9th, 7pm.<ul><li>5/26/25 -According to Legislator Bill McCarthy, the Attorney for the Chemung County Legislative Committee will create a resolution, (translation: re-write the resolution that was submitted for consideration) and do some re-wording. We all wait to see what develops.</li><li>5/ 19/25 - Chemung County Voters called for a resolution again, at the May meeting. Legislator Bill McCarthy (Dist. 12) promised to bring it up before Multi Services Committee.</li><li>4/14/25 -Citizens returned to the Legislature hall to ask if the requested resolution had been drafted or voted on. Leg. Mark Margeson stated that there had been efforts made to reach out to Langworthy's office and they would continue to try in the coming weeks, but nothing substantial had occurred. In absence of further movement, a resolution was drafted by the citizens of Chemung County, and delivered to Democratic Legislators Bill McCarthy &amp; Brent Stermer, who agreed to present and sponsor the bill for vote before the legislative committee. Chemung C</li><li>3/10/25, citizens of Chemung County overwhelmingly asked for members of the Chemung County Legislature to put forth a resolution calling on Cong. Nick Langworthy to defend his vote of approval for the cuts. <h2>Chemung County Youth Football League</h2>So, we did a thing! The Chemung County Democratic Committee and The Chemung County Republican Committee looked past all the party politics and division to jointly help the kids of this county! We competed against each other at the Chemung County Youth Football League Fundraiser and raised over $1,000 each doing it. We did it for the kids. You see, this is how we're going to have to change the scenario, the landscape. We're going to have to do it together. Sure we didn't win the match, heck, who won the game wasn't important. What was important is that we worked together for a common good. In spite of all the name calling and political backstabbing in other parts of the country. We worked together. See ya next year!

Don't do it so you can be a political bigwig. Don't do it for the money, because full disclosure: local offices don't pay much. Do it to truly make a contribution that will make life better and improve local conditions. Right now we're concentrating on candidates in each of the Legislative Districts of Chemung County. We'll offer resources and training on how to run for office, taught by past candidates who are experienced in running campaigns, and members of the Chemung County Board of Elections. We're improving on our listening skills by holding voter surveys, open seminars, and town halls giving those in our local communities a chance to voice their concerns. This is how we change things from the bottom up. By changing conditions where we live, that will affect you and your neighbors the most. This is how we navigate the next 2 &amp; 4 years, until we can get to the next Presidential election. Because right now, conditions indicate that we're in a rocky sea of chaos. The majority of those cuts will affect&nbsp;Medicaid recipients&nbsp;in our community. According to the New York State Department of Health’s January 2025 Medicaid Enrollment Data-book report, there are 29,532 people in Chemung County&nbsp;enrolled.&nbsp;The population for Chemung County, as of 2023, was 81,325 people. That calculates to just under 36% of the county’s population who are enrolled in Medicaid insurance and services! Access to Medicaid&nbsp;as their primary form of health insurance for thousands of our fellow county residents&nbsp;to keep healthy&nbsp;is vitally imperative !(If you want to include a personal story, here would be a good spot)&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Cuts to Medicaid would wreak havoc to one third the population&nbsp;Chemung County! These are our neighbors, friends, and relatives who would be adversely impacted. In addition, our communities are experiencing an increase in homelessness, drug use, and mental health crisis among our citizens. Any decrease in Medicaid, will not only serve to negatively impact these populations, but will contribute to the detriment of our community where 16.8% of its population lives below the national poverty level.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Tonight, I am asking you,&nbsp;the elected officials of the&nbsp;Chemung County Legislature,&nbsp;our local county government&nbsp;to engage with Congressman Nick Langworthy, and impress&nbsp;upon&nbsp;him the seriousness of these potential cuts to Medicaid, and the harm they will do to this county.&nbsp; This can result in dangerous harm to the well-being of&nbsp;children, senior citizens and low income individuals who depend on this valuable resource.&nbsp;<h4>Thank you for your attention, and immediate action on this issue.</h4>

<h2>General Meetings</h2>We hold our meetings on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. Our next meeting will be held on Thursday, May 13, 2025, at 6 pm. We invite you to join us and strategize on forms of action that are important to issues in our community. None of us can fight this authoritarian government by ourselves, it will take all of us working together. We look forward to seeing you at our next general meeting.

This Valentine's Day, the CCDC organized a "Love Your Neighbor" Clothing Drive. For a month we collected clothing, quilts, hats, gloves, shoes, toys, to help those who needed in our community. The drive ended with a hot chocolate (and pizza) movie screening and a lively discussion. Thank you Chemung County for your generous donations!
